It’s very important to properly recover after oral surgery. This means you need to take the recovery period seriously. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Robert Stemme, is happy to tell you all about how to properly recover after oral surgery in Chesterfield, Missouri.
-Get plenty of rest. You should rest one to three days after the treatment. Your surgeons will tell you how long you should take things easy.
-Avoid brushing your teeth for 24 hours. This is because the mouth is still too sensitive for oral hygiene.
-If the surgeons recommends it, ice your jaw often to reduce swelling and pain. It’s best to ice in 20-minute intervals, which means to ice for 20 minutes, take a break for 15 minutes, and then ice for another 20 minutes.
-Avoid eating hard or hot foods. These things can cause complications and create severe pain or discomfort.
-Drink plenty of liquids, especially water. It’s important to stay hydrated and nourished while you recover.
-Take the pain medications recommended and prescribed by your dentist.
